Dubai Marina Walk

Dubai Marina Walk at dusk: illuminated restaurant terraces glow along the canal as moored yachts and the curved Cayan Tower reflect on the water

Dubai
الإمارات العربية المتحدة

Dubai Marina Walk is a fully pedestrianised 7 kilometre promenade that wraps around the Dubai Marina canal — a man-made waterway lined with the city's densest cluster of high-rise residential towers. The walk is the social and gastronomic spine of the marina district: 60-plus waterfront restaurants and cafés, dhow-cruise jetties, pedestrian bridges across the canal, and the launch platform for the XLine zip line, all open day and night and free to access. This guide covers what is on the promenade, exactly how to reach it, where the loop starts and ends, and the best times to visit across the year.

What's Along the Walk

The promenade runs along both banks of the Marina canal, connected by a series of pedestrian bridges. The atmosphere shifts gradually around the loop, so the experience is different depending on which section you start from.

Pier 7 — Seven Restaurants in One Tower

Pier 7 is a circular seven-storey tower next to Dubai Marina Mall, and one of the most distinctive dining concepts in the city: each floor is a different independent restaurant, all sharing the same outdoor terrace level. Expect Asian, Mediterranean, modern Indian, and grill concepts under one roof, with views over the canal and Cayan Tower.

Marina Walk South — Cafés and Casual Dining

The southern stretch between Dubai Marina Mall and Marina Walk is the busiest pedestrian section. It is anchored by mid-priced casual restaurants, shisha terraces, and a steady rotation of streetside cafés. Most venues have outdoor seating directly on the promenade, which is the main draw on cool evenings.

Marina Walk North and the Yachts

The northern bank, opposite Pier 7, runs alongside the largest concentration of private superyachts in the marina. The path here is quieter during the day and used by joggers in the morning. Several boutique seafood and Italian restaurants face the moored yachts, and dhow-cruise operators line up at the jetties.

XLine Zip Line

The XLine launch platform sits on a tower at the north-east corner of the marina, across the canal from Pier 7. Riders cover roughly 1 kilometre at speeds of up to 80 km/h, descending over the water before landing in Dubai Marina. A standard ticket is around AED 650; weight and clothing restrictions apply, and weekends should be booked in advance.

Dhow and Yacht Cruises

Boat tours leave from several points along the promenade. Options range from 90-minute dhow dinner cruises (AED 130–180) to 1- and 2-hour shared yacht trips (AED 100–250) and private charter. Most operators run check-in kiosks directly on Marina Walk, so it is straightforward to book on the day except during peak winter weekends.

Getting There

By Dubai Metro

Two Red Line stations bracket the marina:

  • DMCC Station — closest to the southern end of the walk, Pier 7, and Dubai Marina Mall.
  • Sobha Realty Station (formerly Damac Properties) — closer to the northern end and JBR.

From either station, the walk is a 5–7 minute stroll. Both stations connect to the Dubai Tram, which runs alongside the marina and into JBR.

By Dubai Tram

The Dubai Tram has dedicated stations at Dubai Marina Mall and Marina Towers, both within steps of the promenade. The tram is the easiest interchange between Marina Walk, JBR, Bluewaters Island (Ain Dubai), and Palm Jumeirah Monorail.

By Car

Paid underground parking is available at Dubai Marina Mall (AED 20 per hour after the first free hour for shoppers). Street parking is metered and tightly enforced. On weekend evenings, drivers should expect to queue for mall parking; arriving before 6 p.m. avoids the worst of it.

By Water Taxi or Abra

RTA water transport stops along the canal connect the marina to Bluewaters Island and JBR. Single rides cost AED 25 and run roughly every 30 minutes. The boats are air-conditioned and offer the cheapest "tourist" view of the marina towers.

Best Time to Visit

The marina is busiest after sunset year-round, but the comfort range varies sharply by season.

  • October to April — peak season. Outdoor dining is comfortable from late afternoon onwards, and walking the full loop is pleasant. Weekend nights are extremely busy; weekdays are calmer.
  • May to September — high summer. Daytime walking is uncomfortable; humidity often pushes the felt temperature above 45 °C. Most venues stay open with strong outdoor air-conditioning ("misters" and chilled patios), but the promenade itself empties between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

For the best photos and the fewest crowds, walk the loop on a weekday morning between October and February — the light off the towers is at its strongest just after sunrise, and most cafés open by 8 a.m.

Practical Notes

  • The promenade is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible end to end
  • Pets are allowed on a lead, but several restaurant terraces do not admit dogs — check first
  • Free public Wi-Fi is available across most of the marina
  • Smoking is restricted to designated outdoor zones inside venues
  • The promenade is fully lit at night and considered safe to walk at all hours

Nearby

Dubai Marina Walk connects easily to the rest of the New Dubai waterfront. Within a short tram or walking distance you can reach JBR – The Beach (open beach with restaurants and cinema), Bluewaters Island with Ain Dubai (the world's tallest observation wheel), the Palm Jumeirah trunk via tram and monorail, and the longer beach loop down to Sunset Beach.
