Reem Central Park Running Track

Aerial view of Reem Central Park on Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi: a paved running loop winds through landscaped lawns, a concrete skate bowl, and a stepped amphitheatre, surrounded by a tight ring of contemporary glass-and-steel residential towers under various stages of completion

United Arab Emirates

Reem Central Park is the public park anchoring Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi's newest large-scale residential district. Opened in stages from 2022, the park covers roughly 70,000 m² with a 2 kilometre paved running loop, outdoor fitness stations, an amphitheatre, fenced kids' play areas, and a skate park. It is the youngest of the Abu Dhabi running tracks and feels it — modern equipment, well-lit lighting, and a constantly-changing skyline of new towers as Reem builds out. This guide covers the loop, what's inside the park, and how to combine the run with the rest of Reem.

What's Inside

The Running Loop

The internal loop is a single ~2 km paved path that circles the park, with smaller branches into the central plaza and amphitheatre. It is fully flat, lit at night, and surfaced with the same modern paving you'll find in newer Abu Dhabi developments. Kilometre markers are painted along the route. For a 5K, run two and a half loops; for a 10K, five loops.

Skate Park

A purpose-built concrete skate park sits at the eastern edge of Reem Central Park — bowls, ramps, and a street section. It is busy on weekend afternoons.

Amphitheatre

An outdoor stepped amphitheatre at the centre of the park hosts community events and occasional concerts. Outside event days, the steps are a popular post-run stretching spot.

Outdoor Fitness Stations

Multiple bodyweight exercise zones are spaced around the loop — pull-up bars, parallel bars, ab benches, stretching frames. The equipment is among the newest in any Abu Dhabi public park.

Children's Areas

Several fenced kids' play zones with rubberised flooring and shade canopies are clustered at the southern end. Equipment ranges from toddler swings to climbing frames for older children.

Cafés

Two or three cafés operate inside the park or directly on the perimeter, with shaded outdoor seating. The cluster is small compared with the Corniche or Saadiyat but expanding as Reem builds out.

The Reem Context

Al Reem Island has been one of Abu Dhabi's most active development zones over the past five years — towers continue to come online. The park is the social anchor of the district, with weekend evenings drawing residents from the surrounding apartments. The crowd profile is mixed and largely young families, professionals, and runners. The skyline view is dynamic — every few months a new tower silhouette joins the backdrop.

Getting There

By Car

Reem Island is connected to central Abu Dhabi by the Reem Causeway. From central AD (Corniche), the park is 10–15 minutes by car. Free parking is available at multiple public lots adjacent to the park. From Yas Island, allow 20 minutes; from Saadiyat, 15 minutes.

By Taxi or Ride-Hailing

Standard taxis, Careem, and Uber all serve Reem Island. A one-way ride from central AD is approximately AED 20–35.

By Bus

DARB bus routes serve Al Reem Island with stops within walking distance of the park. Routes vary as the district expands; check the Abu Dhabi DARB app for current service.

Best Time to Run

  • October to April — comfortable from sunrise to evening. Friday and Saturday evenings are family-busy; weekday evenings are calmer.
  • May to September — daytime running is impractical. The lit loop makes evening running (after 8 p.m.) the most reliable summer option.

For solitude, weekday mornings before 8 a.m. are reliably quiet.

Practical Notes

  • The full route is paved and stroller-accessible
  • Drinking water fountains are spaced along the loop
  • Public toilets are available at the central plaza
  • Modest sportswear is appreciated; full running kit is fine
  • Pets are not permitted in Abu Dhabi public parks
  • Free public Wi-Fi covers most of the park
  • Cycling is permitted but the loop is designed primarily for runners and walkers

Nearby

Reem Central Park is well-located between central AD and the cultural district. The Corniche Beach Running Track is 10–15 minutes by car for a longer flat run. Saadiyat Beach Running Track and the Louvre are 15 minutes east. Yas Island is 20 minutes north. For shopping after a run, Reem Mall is 5 minutes by car or a 15-minute walk.
