Khalifa Park Running Track

Shaded paved running path curving through the dense mature trees and ornamental shrubs of Khalifa Park in Abu Dhabi, with a small ornamental canal visible to the right and dappled morning sunlight filtering through the canopy

United Arab Emirates

Khalifa Park is a 50-hectare landscaped public park in central Abu Dhabi, anchored by a network of paved internal paths that runners use as a sheltered alternative to the Corniche. The park covers roughly 2.5 kilometres of usable running surface across its grounds — shaded in places, partially canalside, and surrounded by mature trees that block direct sun on most of the route. This guide covers the running paths, what's on the rest of the grounds, opening hours, and how to combine the run with the park's other attractions.

What's Inside

The Running Paths

Khalifa Park doesn't have a single big loop like a beachfront corniche — instead, several connected paved paths weave through the landscaped grounds. The longest unbroken segment is around 1.2 km along the canal edge; combining the canal path with the central garden loop gives roughly 2.5 km without retracing. The paths are paved, gently undulating, and lit at night. Mature trees provide solid shade across most of the route, which makes Khalifa Park one of the few practical inland summer running options in central Abu Dhabi.

The Canals

A network of artificial canals threads through the park, with bridges, fountain features, and viewing decks along the way. The canal path is the most photographed running stretch in the park — runners often time evening loops to coincide with the fountain shows.

Time Tunnel and Heritage Museum

The park has a small Time Tunnel and Heritage Museum at its eastern end — a walk-through display covering UAE history and pearl-diving heritage. Admission is included with park entry. It is a low-key family stop rather than a major attraction.

Children's Areas

Multiple fenced children's play areas sit between the main paths, with shade canopies, swings, slides, and rubberised flooring. The largest is near the central canal section.

Picnic Lawns

Open grass lawns are spread throughout the park. Picnics are allowed and popular on weekends. There are no formal barbecue facilities; visitors typically bring blankets and cold food.

Opening Hours and Fees

Khalifa Park follows the Abu Dhabi public-park schedule:

  • Tuesday – Sunday: approximately 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Monday: closed for maintenance
  • Friday: opens later (around 2 p.m.) and closes at 11 p.m.

Entry is AED 1 per adult, paid at the gate. Children typically enter free. Weekend evenings (Friday and Saturday) are the busiest; weekday mornings are reliably quiet.

Getting There

By Car

By Taxi or Ride-Hailing

Standard taxis, Careem, and Uber all serve Khalifa Park. A one-way ride from central AD is AED 15–25.

By Bus

DARB bus routes serve Salam Street with stops near the park. Walking time from the closest stop is 5 minutes.

Best Time to Run

  • October to April — comfortable any time of day. Friday and Saturday evenings are busy with families.
  • May to September — Khalifa Park is one of the better summer running options because of the shade. Daytime is still hot but tolerable in the shaded sections; most runners go early morning or late evening.

For solitude, weekday mornings (8–10 a.m.) are the quietest slot of the week.

Practical Notes
