MOHAP — Ministry of Health and Prevention

MOHAP is the federal Ministry of Health and Prevention, responsible for public health policy at federal level and for health regulation in the Northern Emirates (Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah). Medicine registration and import permits moved from MOHAP to the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) on 29 December 2025.
What it does
In Dubai, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulates health locally; in Abu Dhabi, the Department of Health (DOH) regulates locally. Elsewhere, MOHAP is the operating regulator — licensing facilities, registering practitioners, and running public hospitals. MOHAP also runs vaccination programmes nationwide; the federal medication drug list and personal-import permits for controlled drugs are now run by the EDE.
