Tawtheeq (Arabic: توثيق, "documentation") is Abu Dhabi's mandatory registration system for tenancy contracts, administered by the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre (ADREC), the real-estate arm of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), through the TAMM platform (tamm.abudhabi). Every residential and commercial lease in the emirate must be registered — it is the Abu Dhabi counterpart to Dubai's Ejari.
Who registers and what it costs
The landlord (or an authorised property manager) is responsible for registering and renewing the contract; tenants sign the lease but do not file it. Registration runs online via TAMM with a UAE Pass login.

Why tenants need the certificate
- Activating ADDC/AADC electricity and water accounts
- Obtaining a Mawaqif resident parking permit
- Proof of address for family residence-visa applications and school enrolment
- Enforceability of the lease in a rental dispute — an unregistered contract may not hold up
Before signing a lease, ask the landlord to confirm the property is already in the Tawtheeq system — contract registration cannot start until the building itself is on file.
