Al Majaz Waterfront Running Track

Al Majaz Waterfront is the most popular running spot in Sharjah. The paved promenade runs around Khalid Lagoon in the Al Majaz district and covers approximately 3 km per loop — enough for a solid 5K with one and a half circuits. The path is wide, well-lit, and open 24 hours. There are no entry fees. Water fountains and public toilets are available along the route.

The best time to run at Al Majaz is early morning (6–8am) or after 6pm on weekdays. Weekend evenings draw large crowds of families and cyclists, so serious runners tend to stick to mornings. Parking is available in the Al Majaz car parks off Airport Road.

Khalid Lagoon Corniche

The Khalid Lagoon Corniche is Sharjah's longest continuous running route — a flat, paved promenade stretching approximately 5 km from the Al Majaz end to the Corniche area near Sharjah City Centre. Running the full length and back gives you a 10 km out-and-return with lagoon views the entire way. Entry is free with no gates or barriers.

The Corniche path connects directly into the Al Majaz Waterfront section, so you can combine both into an 8–10 km long run without repeating ground. This is the go-to route for Sharjah-based runners training for half marathons or 10K races.

Al Noor Island

Al Noor Island sits in Khalid Lagoon, accessible by a footbridge from the Corniche Road. The island path is approximately 1 km per loop and is best used for interval training or easy recovery runs in a quieter setting. Entry costs AED 20. The island is open from 9am to 10pm Saturday to Thursday, and 9am to 11pm on Fridays. No cycling is permitted on the island.

Al Noor Island is not a high-mileage venue — the loop is short. But the setting is genuinely scenic, with butterfly houses and art installations along the route, and it's significantly less crowded than Al Majaz on weekends.

Al Qasba Canal Walk

Al Qasba is a canal-side entertainment and dining district in central Sharjah, and the waterfront walkway doubles as a pleasant running route. The paved path runs approximately 2 km along the canal from the Eye of the Emirates Ferris wheel end toward Al Arouba Street. Entry is free. The route is partly shaded by trees and building overhangs, which makes it more tolerable for morning runs in summer.

Al Qasba is best visited early morning before the cafes and attractions open. Once the district gets busy from late morning onward, weaving through pedestrians makes it unsuitable for running. There is ample free parking at the Al Qasba car park off Arouba Road.

Al Montazah Waterfront

Al Montazah Park in the Al Khan area has a seafront promenade that is less well-known than Al Majaz but worth including for runners based in the eastern side of Sharjah. The paved path runs along the Arabian Gulf shoreline for approximately 2.5 km and connects to the public beach area. Entry to the promenade is free. The Al Montazah waterpark and hotel complex is adjacent but separately gated.

Tips for Running in Sharjah

Sharjah enforces a modest dress code in public spaces. Running shorts are widely worn by men and women at the waterfront routes without issue, but very short shorts or crop tops may attract attention away from the main sports zones. Standard running kit is fine at all locations listed here.

Between June and September, temperatures in Sharjah regularly exceed 38°C by 8am. Serious runners shift to before 6am or after 8pm during summer months. All waterfront routes are open during these hours. Carry water — not all routes have frequent fountains.

Sharjah's running routes are free from the road traffic that affects some Dubai routes. The Khalid Lagoon Corniche and Al Majaz promenade are pedestrian-only for most of their length, making them safer and more pleasant than running on Dubai's shared cycling and running tracks.
